Letter from the Committee Chair

The Board of Directors of the Latino Democratic Committee of Orange County (LDCOC) is proud of the latest appointment of one of our members to Town Justice. Jaime Santana, Jr. was appointed Wallkill Town Justice to replace Hon. Bonnie Kraham, who will step down on March 31.

Jaime ran for town justice in 2009, and LDCOC endorsed him during his campaign. Santana makes the second LDCOC member gaining a town justice position. Early this year we attended the swearing-in ceremony of Judge Maria Vazquez-Doles, former LDCOC chairwoman.

The appointment of Jaime Santana brings us closer to our goal of getting more Latinos elected to various positions to reflect the growing diversity in Orange County. We encourage qualified Latinos to become candidates for public office.

We must continue to work towards achieving our goals, promoting issues that affect Latinos - like participation in the 2010 Census, immigration, healthcare, jobs, bilingual ballots, housing and seniors - and ensure that
the Latino Voice is heard throughout the County; especially by the elected officials.

Once again we congratulate Jaime Santana on his appointment.
